The Masai Mara has been made famous for its huge abundance of varied wildlife, including zebras and giraffes as well as the annual wildebeest migration and the diversity of bird life, both resident and migrant. ‘Mara’ means ‘spotted’ or ‘dappled’, a reference to the acacia vegetation which dots the savannas of Southern Kenya where the Masai live.
