Costa Rica’s Tropical Paradise Comes Alive on Rainforest Adventure Vacation
Millbrook, NY—August 18, 2005 — Cross Country International, the world’s premier adventure travel company, is pleased to announce a unique opportunity to explore the tropical paradise of Costa Rica on its new Rainforest Adventure walking vacation.
Guests on the Costa Rica Rainforest Adventure are given an extraordinary chance to get in touch with Mother Nature through daily hiking adventures, canoe trips, and walks through untouched rainforests. Imagine exploring the ground below the dense rainforest canopy, paddling a traditional outrigger canoe, visiting gorgeous natural parks, and seeing some of the world’s most breathtaking views!
“The natural world just comes alive in the Costa Rican rainforest,” said Cross Country International President Karen Lancaster. “Costa Rica has such a diverse ecosystem. Its combination of beautiful plants, exotic animals, and amazing scenery make it a totally unforgettable experience.”
Walking trails lead vacationers to some of Costa Rica’s most interesting and diverse areas. Accompanied by a knowledgeable and friendly, English-speaking guide, guests tour both active and inactive volcanoes along Costa Rica’s central “backbone”. This vacation provides a rare opportunity to see the Poas Volcano, one of the world’s largest active craters, which still displays geyser-like activity.
Descending from the volcano on the Escalonia trail, guests arrive at the spectacular La Paz Waterfall Gardens. By traveling in such an up-close and personal manner, guests are better able to experience the sheer power and force behind the beauty of these four glorious waterfalls. There are also trips to a hummingbird gallery and butterfly farm.
The hike through the Santa Elena Forest Reserve features hanging bridges connecting the forest paths. The Santa Elena Reserve is located at a higher elevation than other reserves in Costa Rica, allowing guests the chance to witness the beauty and splendor of a place seemingly untouched by man. Traveling through this protected area gives guests the opportunity to see rare animals, such as macaws or tree-top dwelling monkeys, as well as some of the other 850 bird species and 250 mammal species that call Costa Rica home.
Guests on the Rainforest Adventure vacation also have the unique opportunity to ride the ocean waves in an outrigger canoe. The canoe’s design has remained unchanged for centuries. Historically made from the carved trunk of a single tree and made buoyant by a hydrodynamic float on one or both sides, outriggers have been the customary mode of sea transportation for the people of Costa Rica for hundreds of years. Cruising past cliffs full of pelicans and frigate birds, guests can experience the same thrill and wonder as the early ocean explorers did hundreds of years ago.
“Where else can you do something the exact same way it was done centuries ago?” asked Lancaster. “That’s the beauty of this trip. Guests don’t just visit Costa Rica, they experience it on every level.”
On Cross Country International’s Costa Rica Rainforest Adventure trip, guests stay at beautiful hotels throughout the country, scattered among the oasis-like topography of Costa Rica.
